Mid Century Modern Dining Room

Like so many, I have a love affair with Mid Century Modern decor.  Not just Mad Men era interiors, but stretching from the 50s through the 70s.

Mood/Design Boards

I am starting week two of this new blog and have been trying to find a way to compile items into mood or design type boards. (If you have a suggestion for a service, would love to hear it in the comments.)

One service I’m trying out offers a system that pulls the items from retailers. Perhaps a bit overly salesman-ish which makes me a little uncomfortable, yet seems to do the trick.

As a bonus, if someone is interested in purchasing the items, it makes it easy to do so. (I believe I’d receive a small commission even.)

A Mid Century Dining and Family Room Experience

So here’s my first board. I’m calling it, “Can I offer you a Manhattan in the rumpus room?”

Perhaps it is because of my age or the language I prefer (am the only person who still uses the word drat?) But are rumpus rooms still a thing? If not, what would it take to bring them back, at least among some circles?

When searching for our new house a rumpus room was a requirement. Nowadays, the realtors describe it as a family room.  That is an okay description, if not on the suburbia or blah side of word choices.

Considering our pets outnumber the people in our house by a lot, family doesn’t accurately describe our household but rumpus definitely does.

As I write this, I have convinced myself that from now on, I will declare it “The Rumpus Room” when giving tours to family and friends. Watch out world.

It helps that I recently listened to an episode of “This American Life” featuring David Sedaris, where he described an awkward family drama that played out in a rumpus room. He’s one of my storytelling heroes. If he finds a rumpus room interesting, then I must also find it interesting. Not really, well… sort of really.

Anywho… I hope you enjoy the board of a few Mid Century Modern items that would fit well in a dining or rumpus room.
